To claim a Medicare benefit from Eating Disorder items, you will need an EDP. These involve a medical assessment and the development of a plan for your care.
If you need more than 20 allied health sessions in a year, your EDP must be reviewed to continue receiving Medicare benefits. This involves discussing progress with you and your team, deciding what is and isn’t working, and plotting a new path forward.
EDRs must be performed by either a psychiatrist or a paediatrician / adolescent medicine specialist.

Note: For the time being, stimulants can only be commenced by Dr Ferguson for young people aged 18 years and under. Ongoing prescription can then occur until their 25th birthday.
There are many providers in WA currently offering diagnostic assessments for ADHD. These providers may give a diagnosis of ADHD, but many don’t prescribe medications or provide ongoing care.
There is also no test to confirm or deny ADHD. Neuropsychological tests, such as IQ tests, can help us to understand how your brain works, but these aren’t always necessary and can be expensive.
We will only recommend further testing or assessment if there is a specific need. We have trusted partners that we can refer you to for this purpose. Note that without a referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist, fees paid for these services are unlikely to subsidised by Medicare or count towards your Medicare safety net.
Our process might be shorter if you already have a diagnosis from another provider, but an assessment will still be required to inform ongoing care.
The outcome of your assessment with our team may be different to previous assessments made. These differences can occur when symptoms have changed over time, and/or when there are differences in professional opinion. We can work with you to address whatever difficulties you are experiencing, regardless of the assessment outcome.
